Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has welcomed the announcement that the A12 Colchester Northern By-Pass is to be widened to three lanes as far as the Ardleigh Crown interchange, but has expressed disappointment that the list of road schemes does not include the A120 to the west and east of Colchester. Speaking in the House of Commons, Sir Bob told the Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Patrick McLaughlin MP, that there was a need for the A120 to be upgraded.
The 84 new schemes across England, however, do not include the A120 – so Sir Bob said that he would be taking up Mr McLaughlin’s offer to let him know “if a part is missing” in the programme.
Sir Bob said: “I will be doing so. Although the A120 to the west and east of Colchester is not in my constituency, it shares the A12 where it by-passes Colchester, so an upgrade to provide a complete dual-carriageway from Braintree to Harwich would be of benefit to Colchester and my constituents."
