Palestine backed by Colchester MP

Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell – a long-time campaigner in support of Palestinians – has welcomed Monday’s historic vote in the House of Commons which called on the Government to recognise the State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel.  By 274 votes to 12, MPs supported an amended Motion of which Liberal Democrat Sir Bob was one of the five co-sponsors.

Sir Bob visited the illegally occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in the summer of 2011.  He has spoken on numerous occasions in the Commons against Israel whose occupation is in breach of international law, the Geneva Convention and UN Resolutions.  After last night’s vote he said it was now imperative that Britain recognised Palestine as a State – and put pressure on Israel to stop its policies of ethnic cleansing and apartheid against Palestinians
