Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has again urged the Government to make First Aid training part of the school curriculum.

Speaking in Education Questions, he said that there should be “a holistic approach to education for life.”

He added: “If we are talking about positive values and life skills, is it not time that First Aid training was made a requirement in the school
curriculum?”

Responding, the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan, said she agreed that First Aid skills are very important – but she declined to agree with Sir Bob that it should form part of the national curriculum.

Liberal Democrat Sir Bob is Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary First Aid Group. He has championed the campaign by St John Ambulance, Red Cross and British Heart Foundation that children should be taught First Aid.
