Colchester Liberal Democrats led the Council for 13 years to May 2021.
In the May 2021 elections the Lib Dems lost 2 seats, Castle to the Greens and New Town to Labour, but took a Labour seat in Wivenhoe. The Tories were unchanged. The Independents formed a new coalition with the Conservatives.
Now the Lib Dems lead the opposition working with Labour.
