MP's 50 years of safe driving

Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has marked 50 years of driving without a single motoring conviction by meeting his driving instructor from 1964, Mr Brian Clow who lives in Wivenhoe.

Sir Bob passed his test at the first attempt after being taught by Mr Clow who in those days worked for the BSM (British School of Motoring). At that time BSM was based in High Street near the Castle.

Now retired, Mr Clow spent a total of 40 years as a driving instructor in Colchester including running his own business.

Sir Bob said: “Mr Clow was an excellent instructor. In more recent years I passed a further test to give me membership of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

“I am very proud that I have, over 50 years, not received a single motoring conviction.”

For many years Sir Bob was Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary First Aid Group.
